He captured such a great image.
We have been seeing a mother deer at the swamp edge of our property. We know that she has a baby fawn hidden there because one afternoon the fawn was crying for its mother, she must have taken too long foraging on her own. Mark and I had to check on it to make sure it was ok and not in danger. We have quite a few fishers here and Mark has rescued two fawns in the past, one tore up by a fisher the other about to be. The baby fawn was fine and just wanted its mother....thankfully.

Its been very hot and dry for a couple of weeks, so this gives me a great excuse to finish a painting. An indoor/outdoor version of a canvas painting I did a while ago. The size makes it a very in your face painting, 4ftx4ft.
I had one last piece of plywood left from painting my Yoga Bear painting and I felt I needed a Moose to round out this years indoor/outdoor paintings. Here he is in all his glory.....so Muskoka.I enjoyed painting this one so much. I have a cold right now and I felt better having something fun to paint. The spring weather has arrived in high fashion and I'm getting all my indoor/outdoor paintings ready to display in the greenhouse. This one will be added to the collection as soon as I give it three coats of exterior varathane.
My husband had a startling incident with a black bear a couple of years ago and although its in poor taste I chuckle when he looks at this painting and shutters. We have multible bear sighting on our property every season and have learned to not walk into the fields quitely. The bears need time to flee. Or at least we hope thats what they decide to do.
This is another in the indoor outdoor paintings series. Exterior and artists acrylics on plywood, 24x48in. Based on a photo by: Joe McKenna https://flic.kr/p/bWjLLw I wanted to try and paint another Moose with a different perspective. When I seen this photo in Flickr I knew it was the one for me to try.
photo by: Shanthanu Bhardwaj https://flic.kr/p/p6Huup A friend suggested that I paint a bear. She had seen a terrible video where a bear was being killed. Very upsetting. I do not begin to have any answers to all the problems of people and animals coexisting on a planet with ever diminishing land .
I feel all life has value and a right to exist. Although we may be at the top of the food chain at this point in time, any unnecessary cruelty to animals or our fellow man, just brings down our collective worth and is a very sad, sad thing. I have a healthy fear of bears and I'm always on watch when we walk through our fields. We spot black bears every year grazing on grass in these fields and I intend on giving them the distance and respect they deserve. I have had a few requests for paintings of Moose. So I have been working on a couple of different paintings in a variety of sizes. The back ground of this one feels like an art nouveau style to me. The time of day being sun set gives an orange tinge to the fur and longer shadows.
This is another painting in the indoor outdoor series. I thought it would be fun to put this painting on the front of a building or fence and see if you could get any double takes as people drive by. Its always exciting to spot a moose in the landscape, they are so quick to dart back into the bush you do not get much time take it all in.
