I was quite fortunate to have a request for three indoor/outdoor paintings and to make things even better I'm able to paint anything on the Muskoka wildlife theme. It does not get better than that....... They did start the ideas rolling by suggesting a bever, moose, coyote. So what I did end up painting was an otter a moose and a pair of wolves. Love that they let me decide it just makes it so much more enjoyable for me. The first painting completed is the otter.

I had a paint date with a friend of mine last week. In order to have a fun and productive time I needed to have a canvas ready to paint. Since I spent hours combing through photos and nothing clicked I decided to finish a canvas I began a year ago. The canvas was primed with black paint and the subject drawn out so it was a time saver. When I first started this one a year ago I failed to notice a flaw in the frame and when I did see it, I was anoyed so in the closet it went until I could get over it. Not bad it took a year.....ha..ha.
I have wanted to paint goldfish for ages but other subjects usually won the battle. Not this time so over the last couple of weeks with a few minutes here and there I managed to put them on the canvas. I tried multible backgrounds with these fishes but it just didnt feel right, a bit too busy for my liking, so simple is best.
This is a painting of my dog Teddy who just turned 10 months old. Its been a while since I have painted something for myself and it was so enjoyable. It helps that the subject is so darn cute.
It has been a beautiful hot dry July. Although we wait for this time of year with such egarness the heat knocks us out. Its been so hot that the garden just gets watered and not much else so this week I painted instead. I found a photo I liked and this painting is the result.
I must admit I do enjoy painting chickens. For that matter I enjoy watching, feeding and for the few that let me, picking them up for a cuddle. They are not so keen on being picked up but one or two of my sisters birds will let me.
This painting is based on a photo by: James Sheppard https://flic.kr/p/5koVJJ We have been seeing a mother deer at the swamp edge of our property. We know that she has a baby fawn hidden there because one afternoon the fawn was crying for its mother, she must have taken too long foraging on her own. Mark and I had to check on it to make sure it was ok and not in danger. We have quite a few fishers here and Mark has rescued two fawns in the past, one tore up by a fisher the other about to be. The baby fawn was fine and just wanted its mother....thankfully.
This painting is based on a photo by: Clay Junell https:/flic.kr/p/2gcH3r. He captured such a great image. Its been very hot and dry for a couple of weeks, so this gives me a great excuse to finish a painting. An indoor/outdoor version of a canvas painting I did a while ago. The size makes it a very in your face painting, 4ftx4ft.
I have had this photo for a couple of years in my photo bank of possible painting subjects. I thought it was so sweet. Summer is a busy time so finding the time to paint is tricky. I started this one last week but the mood to complete it was not there until yesterday. I have said it before and I will say it again Cows are such sweet beautiful creatures.
Based on a photo by: Jannes Pockele https://flic.kr/p/PyS6L I have had a bit of a cold for the last week, not the best timing. Its the beginning of crazy busy multi tasking garden and painting season, not that any time is a good time to have a cold. The up side is while I was too tired to get much work done I still had the energy to paint.....yay for painting. Its always there to fill in the gaps and still leave me feeling like I actually accomplished something. TAKE THAT..... weeds in the garden....painting and I are best friends, you will have to wait till tomorrow for my time.
I painted this scene befor on a smaller canvas and I thought it diserved to be on a larger canvas. |
