But the sun has been out for a few days making everything brighter and better, including me. Time to get busy and paint, paint, paint.
I have been working on this painting for a couple of weeks. A process made even slower by having the flu. Its been years since I have had the flu and I hope to never have it again. Along with chills, spliting headahe ,sore throat, extreme cough and nausea was the insane tirdness. I could not paint for about a week of my two week flu....and that was very boring.

Yesterday my dad and I attended a graveside service for my aunt Alice. My memories of her are from many years ago. My brother, sister and I use to swim at my aunt and uncles beach quite often in the summer when we were finished haying for the day or when ever we could slip a swim in to our day. Alice was always kind and talked to me as if I was an adult and not just a kid, something at the time I thought was nice but being a kid went a little unnoticed. Now many, many years later I realize it was not just a kind gesture but part of who she was. It makes sense that my cousins would also be kind and thoughtful people something that was very clear in the way they looked out for and after their mom. Im very uncomfortable around people and as much as I would love to be able to say the right thing at the right time it is a skill I will most likely never have. So instead I painted them something each in memory of their mom. Acrylic on Canvas 8x8in. I thought it would be nice to start painting some smaller canvas boards with the possibility of hanging in a group. So these are the beginnings of what I will be painting for a while. All kinds of subject matter is jumping into my head, birds,butterflies,dragonflies,flowers...... it must be spring. These are all canvas boards 6x8in I started this painting last summer and finally felt like finishing. I do not like to push myself through a painting if it does not feel right. That takes all the enjoyment out of it. So sometimes a painting might sit around for a while before the mood is right.
I made these paintings for my closest friend of 45 years and her siblings. Last week they lost their mom. Denise looked after her mom at home right up to the end which was sooner than anyone thought.
These are painted on canvas 6x6in. I have been helping my mom spring clean her bedroom this week and she has a serious lack of art in there. She has an 8x10 painting I did for her a couple of years ago that is miles too small for the wall its hung on and in my opinion, time to disappear. So I painted her something more appropiate size wise, she said she would like an Iris so here it is.
I have wanted to paint a larger Iris painting for a while and since I had one more of my larger plywood pices left I thought why not make it an indoor outdoor painting. It is 4ft x4ft in size and brings with it a feeling of warm beautiful weather. I thought I would show some of the painting process.
This is another indoor outdoor painting in a different size than I usually do. It is 4ftx4ft, surprisingly it took just as long to paint this as it did the larger size. So you just never know. Last night was 40 below zero....BERRRRRR. I hope that was the last of the crazy cold stuff. The indoor outdoor paintings are being stored in the greenhouse till spring when we can display them without freezing to death. Thankfully that will not be that long.
We have been having some very mild weather which is a wonderful thing. But cloud cover is the price you pay for that mild temperature. So I thought I would paint something a little brighter than I typically do. The photo this painting is based on was taken by: Thor https://flic.kr/p/68cjCc
I painted this one on plywood to give it the added flexibility to be hung outdoors. Its a medium size painting but being that the subject is a small flower it seems huge. I found this one difficult to photograph, the low light of winter is working aganist me and added lighting just makes a glare. So this one is the best I could do.
