We have been having some very mild weather which is a wonderful thing. But cloud cover is the price you pay for that mild temperature. So I thought I would paint something a little brighter than I typically do. The photo this painting is based on was taken by: Thor https://flic.kr/p/68cjCc

Today is the birthday of a dear friend, Martha. We like to tease her about her intellectual car games (that I can't follow at all) and her general knowledge of just about everything. She is a fast thinking, memory keeping, sweetheart. She has been very supportive and encouraging of my painting. Its a wonderful thing to have people around you who are a positive force. This painting was a gift for her birthday which is today. Happy Birthday Martha.
I painted this one at the start of the summer to brighten up our patio area. We no longer have a huge blank wall facing us when we sit for a break in the afternoon. Our patio has large pots full of different hostas and ferns, its a leafy space.
There was a tv series that ran from the mid 80's till early 90's, Golden girls......the story was set in Florida with a house full of ladies living out their golden years. They had bold tropical paper on the walls with flowers and palm leaves. Thats what this space reminds me of, a warm memory of a tropical location where you can relax and share a laugh. I have painted this image in various sizes and they all are such a reminder of spring. As summer is starting to fade I find myself bringing up memories of spring, I think its my way of prolonging this beautiful time of year.
In mid March, on a particularly sunny afternoon, we took folding lawn chairs and sat out in the driveway on a small patch of gravel that was clear of snow to catch the first real warm spring sun. The wonderful feeling of that afternoon is still bright in my memory. It really is the simple things that mean so much, a cliche' but it is so true. |
